32 winners win cash and prizes in the National Stadium Photography Competition 2007
Photo enthusiasts capture memories of National Stadium
From the spectacular fireworks to the quiet grand structures of the National Stadium, participants of the National Stadium Photography Competition 2007, left no stone unturned in capturing the colourful and special moments of the stadium.
The competition received 1008 entries and each photograph had its own story of the stadium. Uniquely captured, it took few rounds of qualifying and judging to finally decide 32 photographs as winners. The creativity and photographic techniques used in the entries has surprised the judges.
The prize presentation ceremony cum exhibition was held at the National Library on Sunday, 7 October 2007 at 11.30am. Mr Alex Chan, Chairman of Singapore Sports Council (SSC), a photo enthusiast himself, was the guest-of-honour. He viewed the winning entries and gave away the prizes to the winners.
The public can view the 32 winning entries exhibited between Sunday, 7 October 2007 and Monday, 22 October 2007 (except on 13 October 2007 - Hari Raya Puasa Holiday) from 10.00am to 9.00pm at National Library Promenade Exhibition space at Level 9, NLB Building (100 Victoria Street). Admission is free.
The photography competition was held to reminisce the past and capture the final moments of the stadium. It was divided into 2 categories of photography styles - architecture and events & people. The participants were grouped into students and public categories. The competition was held from 10th April to 10th July 2007.
Open to all, the competition was one of the actively organised events to commemorate the closure of the National Stadium. It attracted thousands of people over the last six months to the stadium with their cameras.
Singapore Sports Council (SSC), who is the organizer of the competition, sponsored the cash prizes while Nikon Singapore sponsored the cameras and the exhibition. National Library Board (NLB) was the venue sponsor for the prize presentation ceremony and the exhibition. The Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS) managed the competition.
