First organised in 1962, it was first known as the Malaysia Grand Prix

Initiated by the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1969, the National Fitness Exercise promoted daily physical activity nationwide.

Conceived by the then Ministry of Culture, Singapore ‘s first festival of sports was held from 4 - 12 December 1964.
